Dwarf Axe (RUNE II)

This is one of two weapons I was contracted to design and make for the PC game “RUNE II” (https://www.rune2.com/), originally developed by Human Head Studios but with development later picked up by Studio369.
While I'm generally really happy with the design and end product, I have since learned more and now see several areas in which it could improve. For this model, I was never that happy with the ornamental pattern. As with the sword, now I would probably create that pattern with vertices etc instead to get it more tidy, and then rough it up after. The steel material itself also looks a little bit off.
There's several other minor bits and pieces I would tweak or change, but that's just part of improving. Looking forward to apply what I've learned since to my next axe.
I created this using Blender and Substance Painter. I used Krita for the concept art.

Top grip. I'm fairly pleased with this part. Looks pretty good with the rough cord and then leather straps crisscrossed on top.

Reinforcement. A steel piece meant to catch blows that slip off the edge, preventing the haft from getting too damaged.
